Founded in 1974 by the merging of two existing clubs, Ballarat North United Soccer Club (BNUSC) is one of Ballarat and District Soccer Associations largest and strongest clubs. Our club home at Russell Square has great facilities including 4 pitches, 2 seniors and 2 miniroos, and 4 new change rooms (completed in 2015).

We are a family-friendly club and warmly welcome players of all abilities. BNUSC is committed to the health and safety of all its members, proudly achieving Good Sports Level 3 accreditation.

Our dedicated team of coaches, team managers, volunteers and committee members ensure players are coached and supported in accordance with the spirit of the game, with participation, development and enjoyment our priority.

Ballarat North United Soccer Club Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 15th March

2018 AGM PRESIDENT’S REPORT

I would like to personally thank the Executive of Vice President Mark Quartermain and Secretary Malcolm Lyons who have been invaluable to the President and the Committee in their efficiency and going beyond their call. General executive and officer roles have been completed excellently via Lucy Quartermain as Registration Officer and Glenn Millar in his long standing Treasury surety. Lucy brought an efficiency to the complex task of Registration Officer that will be difficult to replace.

The work provided by sub-committees to the club has been most invaluable.

Match Day SubCommittee (Andrew Dinning, Kristen Murray and Natarsha Williams) have risen to another level in smooth and reliable support for all coaches and team managers preparing for training as well as match day. Andrew especially has been involved with tireless ongoing questioning of CoB officers in an attempt to get better immediacy to problems that invariably arise during the season and also long term improvements to facilities.

Coaching SubCommittee has made some hard calls at times but have always held the club and on field success as their primary objective and I believe that their chief outcomes have been towards improving coaching levels throughout the club and it is an ongoing and most important role.

Compliance with the FFV and in line with the Victorian Government directive for the club becoming compliant with Child Safety Regulations 2016 has been a heavy burden to an amateur sporting club. New documentation and processes has been put in place and every effort to support the intent of the legislation related to child safety has been enacted but will need to be accessed again at the start of the year. Parents of underage players are to be asked to pick up their children directly from training grounds and matches.

Fund Raising SubCommittee (Jeremy Beggs, David Mullaney and Jenny Cox) have been managing canteen, purchasing and social events and pushing towards sponsorship options and special club events for 2017-8. David was instrumental in having UBC create our updated web site with easy access and with Bianca Wood offering technical assistance it continues to grow into a sound communication device – together with the Club’s Team App.

Play on the pitch and success as well as memorable social events are always cause for great celebration and 2017 gave the club many positives to reflect upon. The connection to the Athletic Club as a sponsor and the Trivia night added to our season.

Under age teams making the finals included under 15 and 17 males, under 16 Girls and the Champion under 13 boys. The Senior Women under new coach Shane Kozaris played strongly throughout the season making the finals while the Senior Men surpassed expectations under new coach Timothy Beggs and played off in the Grand Final. They were defeated in the Grand Final but gave a lot of enjoyment to club followers and themselves personally.

Financially the club is well placed having a surplus in the range of $50,000. This position has given us a strong bargaining position for the future and the committee has been involved in the planned refurbishment by the Russell Square Users Group of hall, kitchen, north facing balcony and internal structures - a major redevelopment of our facilities.

2018 promises to be an enjoyable year for many current and former members and players of the club as we approach the FIFA World Cup and celebrate out 10-year reunion of our last Senior Team BDSA Championship of 2008.
